## What platform are you moving from?

Each guide covers what actually changes when you leave that platform: the data, the store structure, the integrations and the search metadata.

Platform replacement

### Husky Boutique

Human After All replaced Husky Boutique’s custom Laravel platform with Shopify Plus, carrying four buyer segments onto the new store. B2B Protocol supports the distinct buyer workflows and ServiceCentre ERP connects commerce to operations.

Assessment and roadmap

### Bicycles Quilicot

Bicycles Quilicot engaged Human After All for an eCommerce assessment and a Magento-to-Shopify Plus migration roadmap. The engagement delivered the plan, the scope and the sequencing — it was not a completed migration.

Scope

## What the migration must account for

A replatforming project is four bodies of work running at once. Each one is scoped separately, because each one fails differently.

### Products, customers and eligible historical data

Catalog structure, variants, media, pricing, customer records and the order history that can be carried across. We agree what moves, what is archived in the old system and what is rebuilt, before any import runs.

### Storefront and content

Templates, navigation, merchandising rules, editorial pages and the assets behind them. Some of this is rebuilt rather than transferred, because the destination expresses it differently.

### URLs, redirects and search metadata

A full inventory of indexed URLs, a redirect map to their new destinations, and the titles, descriptions and structured data that go with them. Critical pages are checked individually rather than sampled.

### Integrations and operational workflows

ERP, PIM, tax, shipping, payment and marketing connections, plus the internal workflows that depend on them. Integrations are re-established against the new platform rather than copied across.

What can actually move depends on access to the source system and on what the destination supports. We do not assume that every password, order state, subscription or platform-specific customization transfers unchanged; each one is verified during mapping and, where it cannot move, replaced deliberately.

Method

## How the move happens

Five steps. Duration depends on catalog size, integration count and how much custom logic the current platform carries, so we scope before we schedule.

1. 01

    ### Platform and scope assessment

We document what the current platform does today — catalog, buyer rules, integrations, content and the operational workflows around them — and score that against Shopify Plus: native, app, or custom development.

2. 02

    ### Mapping and migration rehearsal

Every data domain is mapped to its destination structure and imported into a rehearsal environment. The URL inventory and redirect map are built here, not after cutover. Rehearsals are repeated until the imports reconcile.

3. 03

    ### Implementation and integration

The storefront, buyer experience and configuration are built, and the ERP, PIM and operational integrations are re-established against the new platform with their own test cycles.

4. 04

    ### Business acceptance testing

Your team runs its real workflows against the new store: ordering, pricing, account access, fulfilment and reporting. Critical pages and templates are checked individually, and the redirect map is tested against the live URL inventory.

5. 05

    ### Coordinated cutover and post-launch checks

A scheduled cutover with an agreed sequence, an agreed communication plan and a documented rollback plan. After launch we monitor redirects, indexing, integration traffic and order flow, and fix what the live environment surfaces.

Entry point

## Start with a Migration Roadmap

If you need scope, budget and a platform decision before committing to implementation, the Migration Roadmap is a four-week planning engagement that produces exactly that. It is a distinct offer, and the documents are yours whether or not we build the migration.

### What the four weeks produce

- Platform-fit assessment — what your operation gets natively, what needs an app, what needs custom development.
- Data migration map — every data domain with its migration pattern and validation approach.
- Integration architecture for ERP and PIM data flows.
- URL and SEO migration plan, including redirect mapping methodology.
- Budget, timeline and phasing plan for the build.

## Frequently asked questions

What happens to our SEO when we migrate?

We inventory the indexed URLs on the current platform, map each one to its destination, and implement the redirects before cutover rather than after. Titles, descriptions and structured data move with the pages, and critical templates are checked individually. Rankings and traffic move during a replatforming, and no agency can guarantee otherwise — what a redirect map and a monitored launch do is make that movement small, visible and correctable. We monitor indexing, crawl errors and landing-page performance after launch and act on what they show.

Which data can move to Shopify Plus?

Products, variants, media, collections, customer records, pricing structures and eligible order history are the usual scope. What is actually transferable depends on the access we have to the source system and on what the destination supports: some platform-specific customizations, order states, stored payment credentials, passwords and subscription arrangements do not carry across unchanged, and are either rebuilt or deliberately retired. We verify each domain during mapping and tell you which is which before the import runs.

Can we keep our ERP or PIM?

Yes. The systems stay; the connections are rebuilt. We define which system owns each type of data, then map how products, prices, stock, customers and orders move between it and Shopify Plus, using native connectors, an integration platform such as Patchworks, or custom middleware depending on the mappings, update frequency and exception handling required. Integration is scoped as its own workstream with its own budget, because that is where replatforming projects most often overrun.

How are timing and cost established?

From the assessment, not from a template. The variables that move both are catalog size and complexity, the number and depth of integrations, how much custom logic the current platform carries, and how much of the storefront is rebuilt rather than transferred. We do not quote a universal migration duration, because the same catalog with two integrations and the same catalog with nine are different projects. A Migration Roadmap engagement exists precisely to produce a defensible number and sequence before you commit to a build.
